Lil Durk’s trial for a murder-for-hire case might not start until 2026, and he isn’t too pleased about that. On Friday, September 12, both the prosecution and lawyers for some of his co-defendants filed a request in federal court to push back the trial. They explained that the case is “very unique and complicated,” so the defense teams need extra time to get ready.

If the court agrees to this request, Durk’s trial would begin in January instead of its current date of October 14. According to the court filing, “Defendant Banks does not agree to the request to delay the trial. ” Billboard mentioned that the delay wouldn’t break the rules about Durk’s right to a quick trial since he is one of several defendants, and a three-month extension is considered a reasonable wait.

It’s important to note that this trial has already been postponed once before, and during that delay, Durk actually agreed to it. He was meant to be in court on January 7, but federal prosecutors asked for more time to go through a lot of evidence, which involves “around 230 GB of digital proof,” such as audio files and video footage. The prosecutors said this evidence includes “20,000 pages of reports about murders and other violent acts, pictures, witness statements, and medical records. ”

Durk is facing serious accusations for his supposed involvement in a murder-for-hire scheme from 2022 that targeted Quando Rondo. Prosecutors allege that he instructed his OTF crew to carry out the murder, which led to the death of Saviay’a “Lul Pab” Robinson, who was in a car with Rondo during the event.

His bail has been denied multiple times, including a $4.5 million bail offer. The rapper’s lawyers suggested that he could pay cash, stay at home under strict supervision, wear an electronic monitor, and have private security. However, U. S. District Judge Michael Fitzgerald commented, “The penalty is a mandatory life sentence without parole, which might make running away seem like the smart choice for any innocent defendant. “
