Jamaican reggae and dancehall singer Kranium is upset with the Caribbean Music Awards. He claims he was told he received an award by mistake. Because of this, he decided to toss the award, which he was asked to give back, right into the trash.

During the CMAs, recorded in New York City on August 28, Kranium went on stage to accept the Caribbean R&B Artist of the Year award. A few days later, he found out that the real winner of that award was Dexta Daps. It is important to mention that the show did not air on BET until September 12.

Kranium expressed his feelings about the situation on social media. In a video he shared on Instagram on Tuesday, September 16, he said, “I’ve never felt so disrespected in my life as I have with the Caribbean Music Awards. ” He also posted a story on IG where he showed himself putting the award in a bin.

He went on to explain that he couldn’t forgive the CMAs. He said he didn’t ask for an award or even knew that he would get one when he was invited to perform. Kranium mentioned, “All I do is focus on my own work. I don’t chase fame or popularity. ”

The Jamaican artist had some strong words for the CMAs, which we wouldn’t want to hear ourselves. After noticing Kranium’s comments online, the organizers released a long statement on Wednesday, September 17.

In their statement, which came from the award show’s organizing team, they said, “We sincerely apologize, both publicly and privately, to everyone affected by the mistake made during the Caribbean Music Awards taping on August 28. We talked to Kranium’s management about this before the show aired, but we have seen his recent statements online and think our supporters deserve a clear explanation. ”

The statement explained that the wrong award was given due to “human error. ” They noted that Dexta Daps received 40.8% of the fan votes while Kranium got 12.6%. However, they did mention that Kranium had more streams of his music. As a way to fix the situation, they suggested adding a Caribbean R&B Song of the Year category, but Kranium turned that down.

Kranium’s manager, Pierre Bost, told DancehallMag, “Kranium went to the CMAs to perform his song ‘Higher Life’ and because he got nominated in five categories, making him one of the artists with the most nominations this year. He gave an excellent performance as usual and won the Caribbean R&B Artist of the Year award. He accepted this award on stage in front of many industry people at the packed venue in Brooklyn. ”
Bost verified that the CMAs presented another kind of award, saying, “We are all aware that this wasn’t an error — BET has already reached out to us about getting the rights to air the song on TV. Clearly, we did not accept this ridiculous and disrespectful choice. ”

It seems like both parties might have to accept their differences.
