Kid Cudi, who recently released his final album on Republic Records, is saying goodbye to music, at least for the time being. On Tuesday night, September 2, the artist behind “Day ‘n’ Nite” disclosed that his focus will now be on directing, acting, fashion, and other creative pursuits.

I just want to express my gratitude to each of my fans for their support of Free, sharing information about the project, and sending messages of affection. I’m extremely thankful to have you all on my side, Cudi tweeted. “My last album on a major record label, which is why I titled it Free, has been released, and I’m now looking forward to a new chapter and becoming independent.”

“He mentioned a new short film he directed, which is set to be released for ‘Mr. Miracle’ within a matter of weeks and he believes you all will really enjoy it.” When a fan inquired about how long it’d be until the next solo project, the Cleveland rapper admitted it would be “a while” before he releases another long-player.

“I’ve decided I’m going to step back from releasing albums for a while and focus on directing, acting, painting, and fashion instead,” he said. “It’s going to be some time before you all hear another album from me, but I assure you that when I do release one again, it will not be dull.”

Over a decade under Republic Records has now come to an end, and in the time since, Cudi has provided fans with a substantial amount of great music. Last year, he released two distinct albums, INSANO and INSANO (NITRO MEGA), comprising a total of approximately 40 songs.

Arriving in August, Free featured songs such as “Neverland” and “Grave,” marking a shift towards a more pop-influenced sound. The 13-song album debuted at number 192 on the Billboard 200 chart, representing the lowest-charting solo album of his career to date.

Notably, Cudi has achieved success beyond his music career. He appeared in Adam Sandler’s Happy Gilmore 2 in July.
