Kevin Gates – Big Bruddah (Don’t Be Mad)

Kevin Gates Big Bruddah Dont Be Mad

Kevin Gates is once again in that mode on his latest single, “Big Bruddah (Don’t Be Mad).” We make this assertion because a consistent Louisiana artist is preparing another album for release in the near future. A sequel to his 2019 album I’m Him is expected from the artist, titled I’m Him 2. On that body of work, Luca Brasi was featuring a substantial amount of introspective tracks, such as “Walls Talking,” for instance. Historically, he’s known for producing Southern hip-hop party anthems that are well-received. The project demonstrated his ability to easily access a narrative and anecdotal storytelling style. The preceding singles for part two, “Block Away,” “Be Somebody,” and “Kiss The Ring,” focus on relationships, self-worth, and confidence.

The album ‘Big Bruddah (Don’t Be Mad)’ maintains a more serious tone. He seems to be recalling his past experiences with drug sales, giving his account a more personal feel. He discusses the challenges he encountered, including difficulties in interacting with both buyers and suppliers. Heavy on his mind were the thoughts that at home, all Kevin yearned for was an intimate connection with his partner. His anger is evident in the tone of his voice as he recounts every detail. While it may not be the most memorable part of the song aside from the chorus, it excels lyrically. Based on initial impressions, the project appears to have a strong foundation. Kevin Gates has March 19 marked on his schedule. With only 11 songs, he’s not allowing himself any margin for mistakes, a quality that’s also welcome in the current streaming environment.
