Kehlani has been granted full custody of their daughter, Adeya Nomi Parrish Young-White, as announced on Monday (Dec. 8).

During their appearance on “The Breakfast Club,” the singer discussed their custody dispute with Javaughn Young-White, with whom they no longer have contact. Kehlani stated that they remained calm throughout the process and noted that Adeya’s father withdrew most of his earlier accusations.

In August 2024, Javaughn claimed that Kehlani was involved in a “cult” and had endangered Adeya. He later took back these statements in a public post that same month, stating he did not need to misrepresent his co-parent to have his feelings acknowledged by the court.

Kehlani emphasized that their priority was to protect Adeya after a private situation became a topic of discussion online. They expressed that while they can handle criticism directed at them, it is more challenging when their child’s name and image are involved, describing it as heart-wrenching.

The singer shared that the ordeal strengthened their faith, explaining that they learned significant lessons during this time of struggle, focusing on the well-being of their child.

Additionally, at that time, Kehlani was facing backlash for their public stance on Palestine. They acknowledged that they continue to navigate the complexities of public perception, noting that some critics seem to be deeply unhappy.

Regarding how the custody situation has impacted Adeya, Kehlani mentioned that she has been very understanding and is taking things one day at a time.
