Joey Bada$$, Rapsody, & Ab-Soul – STILL

Joey Bada$$ is fueled by his “Survival Tactics” energy on his latest single, “STILL.” This is the last preview of his forthcoming album Lonely at the Top, which is due out this Friday, August 29. The Brooklyn rapper mirrors those sentiments, albeit in a less aggressive manner, over a subdued and laid-back 1999-style beat.

Crafted by longtime collaborator Statik Selektah, he creates an atmosphere that fosters profound thoughts and encourages self-reflection. This track would also be a fantastic addition to a workout playlist, particularly due to the motivational lyrics that are scattered throughout it.

I got that Stevie vision / This is a song that’s written in the key of my life / I’ve put my soul into these microphones, I don’t have to think twice.

Joining Joey Bada$$ on tour are his opening acts Rapsody and Ab-Soul. One potential drawback of this song is that the femcee does not contribute a verse. Her understated but prophetic performance contributes significantly to the overall listening experience nonetheless.

Soul’s bars are truly excellent. “A fifth horseman, tasked with diverting the apocalypse, was operating the Impala’s hydraulic system by flipping a switch, while steering its wheel of fortune; meanwhile, I was ten steps ahead of them.”

Some may prefer the more accessible “ABK” and “DARK AURA,” yet “STILL” actually has the potential to be the strongest deep track on the album.
