Wale is on the verge of releasing his eighth studio album. This upcoming album, which has yet to be titled, will represent his first full-length project under Def Jam. He concluded his association with Maybach Music Group after the release of Folarin II in 2021.

As he progresses towards this release, Wale has shared several new singles and freestyles to prepare his fans. On June 20, he released “Where To Start,” a track that samples SWV and discusses a romantic relationship. Following that, on June 26, he delivered a freestyle over Central Cee’s “CRG,” a highlight from the British rapper’s debut album, Can’t Rush Greatness. Currently, he is offering fans a freestyle over “What’z Ya Phone #” from 2Pac’s iconic album, All Eyez On Me.

The reimagined beat, crafted by Johnny J and Wale, does not replicate the original Pac song exactly, yet it maintains the essence of the original track.

Wale showcases his strong performance on this track, effortlessly flowing over the production with lyrics that touch on themes of women, his critics, and personal insecurities. The track is filled with punchlines, demonstrating precisely why his fans have supported him throughout the years.

Wale’s transition to Def Jam in October 2023 marked a new beginning for the DC rapper, who dedicated a decade of his career to Rick Ross’s Maybach Music Group. During his time with MMG, he released six albums, four of which have achieved Gold certification. Additionally, he earned a Grammy nomination for Best Rap Song due to the success of his 2013 hit, “Lotus Flower Bomb.”

When his next album is released, it will be his first in four years. As previously stated, it currently lacks a title and a release date. In the meantime, be sure to check out his series of freestyles, including his verses on 2Pac’s “What’z Ya Phone #” below.
