Nigerian singer Iyanya Onoyom Mbuk, known as Iyanya, has openly discussed his ongoing challenges with celibacy, describing it as a process characterized by effort, setbacks, and contemplation.

In a conversation on the Afropolitan podcast, the 39-year-old artist mentioned that his dedication to celibacy often varies, particularly when faced with temptation.

“My celibacy fluctuates; it goes up and down. Sometimes you are trying to stay celibate and you encounter someone who provides reasons to abandon that commitment. You may give in, and then you start to miss the clarity that celibacy offers,”

Iyanya stated.

He explained that although he strives to maintain discipline, there are moments when he succumbs and later yearns for the control and insight that celibacy brings.

Iyanya also shared his perspective on marriage, indicating that it is not a priority for him at this point in his life. He emphasized that he is currently focused on healing and personal development.

“I am not thinking of getting married… I’m healing,”

he remarked.

Additionally, he noted that honesty has become central to his interactions with new people, mentioning that he no longer misleads or makes emotional commitments he cannot fulfill.

“When I meet someone, I don’t express excessive enthusiasm. I say, ‘Listen, I’m healing. Don’t expect so much from me.’ I’m not in that place, and I won’t mislead you or toy with your feelings,”

he explained.

Iyanya concluded by reflecting on how his maturity has influenced his approach to relationships, highlighting that clear communication has helped him prevent unnecessary emotional difficulties for both himself and others.
