Ice Spice and Nicki Minaj are reportedly not on bad terms, but they don’t seem to be particularly close. The “Munch (Feelin’ U)” rapper has recently provided more information about what led to the cooling of what was once a highly successful partnership.

Ice Spice was a guest on Keke Palmer’s podcast in its latest episode, which aired on September 16, a Tuesday. During their conversation, Palmer inquired to the Bronx rapper about collaborating with Nicki Minaj. It appears that things became uncomfortable when Nicki indicated a desire to sign her; Ice Spice was already contracted to two agreements. “I truly attempted to let our lawyers manage everything and our managers,” said Ice Spice. “I was already under contract when she was attempting to sign me, so I believe that’s where the issues arose because there was no room left at that point to negotiate a new deal, as I’m already affiliated with two separate labels.”

Prior to their friendship deteriorating, the female rappers produced a pair of successful songs with “Princess Diana” (Nicki featured on the remix) and “Barbie World” from the Barbie the Album soundtrack, both released in 2023. However, a year later, things took a turn for the worse when a former acquaintance of Ice Spice, Baby Storme, made public several texts in which the Bronx rapper had insulted Minaj; one of the messages read, “She’s kinda like my mom: ungrateful and delusional.”

She admitted to sending the texts to Rolling Stone, stating they were sent in a moment of frustration during contract negotiations. It goes without saying that a formal alliance between Ice Spice and Nicki Minaj never materialised. While speaking with Palmer, she also complimented her “mutual.” “She’s my everything, like I’ve said before,” said Ice Spice. “I still look up to her, that’s… she’s my mother figure.”

Ice Spice also gave a shoutout to Cardi B in the same interview. “I think Cardi B really brought back that hope for girls to be able to rap because for a long time, Nicki Minaj seemed completely out of reach,” Ice Spice said. “It’s part of the lore as to why I was so obsessed, because I thought, ‘Only she could have done it.'”
