Nigerian music artist Burna Boy has responded to criticisms regarding his recent actions by using Instagram Stories on November 19, 2025, to defend himself and address public backlash, as well as to clarify the context of his previous comments.

In a series of posts, the Grammy-winning artist discussed fan behavior, media scrutiny, and the pressures that come with being a public figure. He suggested that much of the controversy arose from misunderstandings and exaggerations online, stating, “I was joking around with my band about something else. Not necessarily this situation and y’all have spun it as usual saying ‘Burna Boy doesn’t love his fans. If you hate me so much either kill me or leave me alone. I’m fighting my own battles… I love who loves me and respect who respects me.” He also added, “Free Sudan, Free Congo, Free Nigeria.”

Burna Boy emphasized his commitment to his music, indicating that he gives his all on stage, regardless of audience size. He expressed concerns about what he perceives as inappropriate behavior from fans: “I leave my soul on every stage… and I will gladly be canceled if we are now in a world where you can treat me like a stripper, slap my ass, and tell me to keep dancing because you throw $100 at me.”

He compared such actions to misconduct in other professional settings, noting, “If you make the pilot uncomfortable on a plane you bought a ticket for, you will be deboarded or arrested… you pay school fees, but you will be kicked out of class if you make it uncomfortable for the teacher to do his job.”

Despite his strong response, Burna Boy offered a conditional apology: “I sincerely apologize if I’m wrong, I’m not always right but I feel right about this. Anyway, I’m just human so fk me.”

He also criticized the media and some members of the public for only highlighting negative aspects of his behavior: “They never post any of the good I do in this world, but they go wild and viral when they feel I’ve finally ‘fked up’… I’ve seen people who NEVER even acknowledged my existence now posting how ‘this is not cool.'”

These posts represent Burna Boy’s most direct response to ongoing criticisms and reflect his frustration with what he considers to be unfair narratives regarding his relationship with fans and the media.
