HBO Has Announced That The Wizkid Documentary Titled “Long Live Lagos” Will Premiere In December

HBO has announced that WIZKID: LONG LIVE LAGOS, a new documentary about the life and rise of Nigerian artist Wizkid, will premiere on December 11, 2025.

The documentary will be available on HBO and stream on HBO Max from 9:00 to 10:25 p.m. ET/PT as part of the Music Box series. Directed by Karam Gill and executive produced by Bill Simmons, the film provides an in-depth exploration of Wizkid’s path from his beginnings in Lagos to his status as a prominent figure in African music. It examines how his sound and success have challenged stereotypes about African artists and contributed to the global recognition of Afrobeats.

A significant highlight of the documentary is Wizkid’s milestone performance at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London, where he became the first African artist to headline the venue, reinforcing his international influence.

The film includes insights from individuals close to Wizkid, such as his manager and partner Jada Pollock, Afrobeat legend Femi Anikulapo-Kuti, and media personality Julie Adenuga. Long Live Lagos premiered at the 2025 Tribeca Film Festival, receiving positive reviews.

Produced by HBO Documentary Films in collaboration with Ringer Films, Macro, and MGX Creative, the documentary showcases the cultural significance of Wizkid’s music and the pride it instills in audiences across Africa and beyond.
