Kerala-based rapper and songwriter Hanumankind has rapidly become a prominent figure in the Desi hip-hop movement and is now further establishing his prominence with this latest single. The track is titled “Run It Up” and it comes out several months following his extremely popular, breakout single “Big Dawgs.” The song reached its highest position at number 23 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and at number nine on the Global chart. The track has been widely featured, including being utilised as a key part of NBA broadcasts on ESPN. Additionally, it has been well-received by other rappers, including a collaboration with A$AP Rocky which resulted in a remix in December.

Despite its popularity, the song has not gone unscathed, with some online critics labeling Hanumankind a one-hit wonder. We believe he possesses a significant amount of talent. He’s also erased the negative perception with “Run It Up” in our view. This cut is a passionate and intense piece that effectively utilizes a traditional instrument. The Chenda is a traditional drum originating from Kerala, characterised by a distinctive, jangly tribal tone. The momentum gains even greater intensity as it moves further along the track. Hanumakind’s lyrics convey a sense of urgency, particularly when he discusses representing his ancestors. In either case, he’s determined to achieve success, whether that involves becoming a musical star or fighting for his native people. It’s relentless in a truly positive manner.
