Rapper GloRilla has no intention of pursuing the lawsuit brought by influencer Natalie Henderson, who is suing her over the “natural, no BBL” lyric in her song “NEVER FIND” released in 2024. The lawsuit alleges that the bar bears a striking resemblance to Henderson’s popular catchphrase and a song she composed. The Memphis rapper’s legal team filed a motion on Monday, September 8, to have the case thrown out in its entirety, arguing that the phrase is “too common.”

A filing obtained by Billboard indicated that the rapper’s lawyers contended, “The phrase ‘natural[e], no BBL’ — referring to someone with a natural body who has not undergone the ‘Brazilian Butt Lift’ cosmetic procedure — is too ordinary, everyday, trite and clichéd to be protected by copyright.” Glo’s legal team also pointed out at least seven other instances of artists utilising the same phrases, including her “Get In There” collaborator, Real Boston Richey.

The motion further argued that the phrase in question is not an original work and therefore cannot be copyrighted. Henderson is likely facing a tough situation, given that copyright law typically does not apply to short, commonly used expressions. In addition to this, the artist’s lawyers claimed there is no evidence she had ever heard the influencer’s supposed catchphrase.

Henderson’s initial lawsuit, which she submitted in June, alleged there were “unmistakable similarities between the two works.” The decision to proceed with the case is now in the hands of a judge, who must determine if the current situation is sufficient. GloRilla has a current record of 2-0 against copyright claims.

In 2023, Ivory “Mobo Joe” Paynes of Dog House Posse alleged that she had sampled his track “Street of the Westbank” without permission on “Tomorrow” and “Tomorrow 2.” The suit was dismissed just a year later.

In March, rapper Plies subsequently filed his own lawsuit against Megan Thee Stallion, GloRilla, Cardi B, and Soulja Boy. He had initially accused the four of sampling his track “Me & My Goons” for Glo’s “Wanna Be” but later dropped the claim.
