Fridayy – Below Zero

Earlier this year, Friday released his new album Some Days I’m Good, Some Days I’m Not, but he still has plans for 2025. A new track and visualizer titled “Below Zero” has been released by him, a throwback ballad with an ’80s-like sheen and a contemporary atmosphere.

When it comes to the lyrical content, the Philly singer is attempting to connect with a potential partner and express his affection before their hearts become too unresponsive. It’s clear that the vocalist’s enthusiasm shines through, yet that’s hardly an original observation. The track’s simplicity is actually an asset, making it effective as a straightforward and tender song, particularly when contrasted with the power of songs like “Proud Of Me.”

“Below Zero” can progress with minimal additional elements, requiring only slow drums, a rubbery bass, ethereal vocal harmonies, and sultry electric guitar strums. While not the most advanced or forward-thinking track you’ll hear this week, it effectively utilises Fridayy’s strengths with strong musicianship and some memorable melodies and choruses throughout.

He’s had a significant year, which could be due to increased collaborations or the buzz surrounding his new initiative. Fridayy’s approach can turn even melancholic tracks, such as “February ’23”, into hopeful, warm, and supportive ones, making its rise to prominence quite compelling to watch.

Despite “Below Zero” being a teaser for something greater to come in the distant future, it serves as a great showcase of his talents and a gentle illustration of his songwriting skills.
