Freddie Gibbs & The Alchemist – 1995

Freddie Gibbs The Alchemist 1995

The highly anticipated return of Alfredo 2 is imminent, as Freddie Gibbs and The Alchemist have released the lead single, and it’s called “1995.” This new track is reminiscent of the opening song from their 2020 collaborative album, and it’s equally as polished and impressive as one would expect.

This time around, the duo re-uses a killer guitar solo for part of its sample, with other elements comprising a tender piano line, sparkling keys, and numerous other atmospheric tones. This beat is one of the most complex and layered from Uncle Al in recent times, with many samples constantly interchanging rather than continuously looping.

The Big Boss Rabbit is charismatic, skilled, and firm as a host, using many internal rhyme schemes and witty one-liners to enhance his adaptable and versatile delivery style. If this is the benchmark for quality that the rest of the tracklist will meet, we’re in for a truly exceptional album.

Incidentally, there’s speculation that Alfredo 2 might be released next week, but further confirmation is needed. We’re certainly keeping our fingers crossed if that’s the situation. The Alfredo short film has also been recently premiered on YouTube and in select Los Angeles screenings.

The year 1995 marks the beginning of this new era for us, and we are eagerly anticipating what the future holds. Freddie Gibbs and The Alchemist are anything if not consistent, so we should expect another cherished hip-hop masterpiece.
