Freddie Gibbs – Nobody Like You

Freddie Gibbs Nobody Like You

Freddie Gibbs, a rapper from Gary, Indiana, released the track You Only Die 1nce on Halloween in 2024. The 12-track album marked his first release since 2022’s $oul $old $eparately and followed up 2017’s You Only Live 2wice. The track “Nobody Like You” is an interlude cut on Die 1nce. The conversation briefly touched on past relationships, ending in a particularly unpleasant manner. Vocals from Gibbs were noticeably absent on it, as it consisted of a series of voicemails. Unfortunately, it’s a pity because the project had some excellent concepts at its foundation. Instrumentally, producer Andrew “Pops” Papaleo’s work is especially notable for a remarkable sample flip that he perfected with some frequency. The timing of Valentine’s Day and the track’s theme of lost relationships prompted Freddie Gibbs to give his interlude a fresh boost. The title remains unchanged, yet the co-creator of Alfredo gives the production a cursory treatment.

This new information creates a highly fulfilling experience for fans, as we can now see how perfectly this would have suited the personal project. Gibbs shares his perspective on setbacks, as well as recounting challenges he faced in his childhood in one of America’s most hazardous cities. Nevertheless, towards the latter part of the song, the lyrics take an intriguing turn. “Monkey n**** you Bubbles, and I’m Michael / […] / Set the flows to unlawful / I might catch a lawsuit so you lucky I ain’t caught you.” This may be a long shot, but it could be a veiled reference to Drake (and PARTYNEXTDOOR). This criticism may be related to Drizzy’s lawsuit against UMG over “Not Like Us,” and it could also serve as a warning that borrowing the $oul $old $eparately style for $$$4U may have consequences. Gibbs expressed his outrage on Twitter, tweeting, “Damn, they even stole the rabbits too.” I’m flattered.”
