Fola Discusses His Experiences Connecting With Wizkid, DJ Tunez, And His Unexpected Meeting With Davido

Fast-rising Afrobeats artist Fola has shared insights about a pivotal series of events in his career that allowed him to connect with Davido and subsequently secure a significant studio session with Wizkid and DJ Tunez, enhancing his presence in the mainstream music scene.

In a recent interview, Fola characterized the past few months as a transformative period, recalling that he met Davido just a day prior to the interview. He mentioned that a viral video of their encounter at a club quickly garnered attention online, marking a moment of significance for him as an emerging artist.

A notable highlight occurred shortly thereafter when Fola received an unexpected call inviting him to collaborate with Wizkid and DJ Tunez. At the time, he was in Bristol for an event, having only just left London hours earlier. The call, which included the familiar phrase “Bad boy,” initially felt like a joke, but it turned out to be from Wizkid’s team trying to contact him.

Fola expressed his disappointment upon realizing he was in the wrong city at an inconvenient time, admitting he thought, “I need to be in the city with Big Wiz… I was so pained.” Although worried about losing the opportunity, Wizkid’s team reassured him to reach out after his return to London.

He made it back the next day but faced a period of uncertainty as he received no immediate response. “I was like, ‘Oh my God, that one won’t change my life!’” he recalled, reflecting on his anxiety during that time.

The long-awaited communication came unexpectedly while he was attending a Chelsea vs. Fulham match. He received a message that stated, “My Burna say, ‘Studio tomorrow,’” referring casually to Wizkid. He was given a number to call, and when the person on the line said, “Let me tell Wiz,” Fola realized the collaboration was indeed happening.

He arrived at the studio the following day and finally met Wizkid in person. Along with DJ Tunez, they recorded what the interviewer described as “one of the biggest records in 2022 and five,” representing a significant milestone in Fola’s career.

When questioned about the role of luck in his success, Fola attributed it to consistency and faith: “I’ve put in the hard work, God just crowned the efforts.”

His narrative provides a straightforward perspective on the unpredictable yet rewarding path of a new artist navigating Nigeria’s dynamic music industry, where timing, persistence, and preparation can lead to unforeseen opportunities.
