J. Cole has initiated the release process for his anticipated album, The Fall-Off, generating some excitement. However, Fat Joe has expressed doubts about whether the North Carolina rapper should still be regarded as one of the elite artists in Hip Hop.

In a recent episode of the “Joe and Jada” podcast, hosted by Joe Crack and Jadakiss, the duo discussed Cole’s legacy. Jadakiss mentioned that Cole is set to release a mixtape prior to The Fall-Off. According to Jadakiss, Cole will be rapping over two of The LOX’s instrumentals, “Money, Power & Respect” and “Can I Live,” indicating that he is making a significant return.

Despite Jadakiss’ support, Joe remained skeptical. He asked whether Cole is viewed similarly, considering he distanced himself from the conflict between Kendrick Lamar and Drake in 2024. When the beef began, Cole released a track titled “7 Minute Drill,” which took shots at K. Dot, but later retracted, stating that he didn’t want to jeopardize a friendship by engaging in a battle.

While Jadakiss maintained that Cole’s lyrics would ward off criticism, Joe pointed to the importance of competition in Hip Hop. He referenced The LOX’s confrontation with 50 Cent, highlighting their relative stature compared to him and emphasizing that taking on such challenges is vital.

In response, Jadakiss remarked that Joe had answered his own question, noting that it is the lyrics and the “people in the street” who ultimately make the determination, rather than record sales.

Joe noted that Cole had not put himself in the arena, while the consensus seemed to be that it will ultimately be up to the fans to determine J. Cole’s standing in the industry.
