Lil Wayne’s public display of loyalty to Nicki Minaj on Friday, February 7, was met with enthusiasm from his fans. The post follows comments made by former NBA player-turned-sportscaster Kendrick Perkins, who stated, “I was searching for the Warriors. I believed they would secure a high-profile endorsement deal, possibly with an artist like Beyoncé or Taylor Swift, but instead they partnered with Nicki Minaj.”

Perkins is coming to realize that drawing a comparison between Jimmy Butler and Nicki Minaj was not a wise decision. In the eyes of the public, Minaj is considered a less prestigious artist than superstars such as Beyoncé and Taylor Swift, despite being perceived as an A-list celebrity.

The media personality who sparked controversy later offered a public apology through a social media platform. His post said, “I wish I had known about the Barbz before my experience with Nicki Minaj; I won’t hold it against my heart.” The rapper is receiving staunch support from his fans on X, who are vigorously defending the multi-platinum female rapper.

One of the most notable advocates for Minaj was her fellow Young Money Entertainment superstar, rapper Lil Wayne. The “A Milli” rapper stated, “The Warriors thought they were acquiring a Taylor Swift or a Beyoncé and instead received a #kendrickperkins, Stop playing, woman.” Perkins’ criticism of Minaj has been deemed unfair by many fans, who note that he was never a highly touted player in the NBA.

One of Lil Wayne’s followers responded to his post by saying, “It’s about time you all started to stand up for her.” I’m grateful for this post on Twitter. The act was a kind gesture, particularly given Minaj’s support for Wayne after it was announced that Kendrick Lamar would be performing in New Orleans at the Super Bowl LIX’s Apple Music Halftime Show. Upon hearing the news, she offered words of encouragement to the visibly upset rapper. When the news was reported, she shared positive encouragement for the obviously disgruntled rap legend.

Perkins has a history of provoking controversy. Kevin Durant, a former teammate of Perkins, recently stated, “I know this may be a stretch, but this comment is by far the most outrageous thing I’ve seen this week,” in response to Perkins claiming that he was the primary leader of the Oklahoma Thunder during Durant’s and Russell Westbrook’s time with the team. According to the quote, the fact that someone is the team’s best player does not automatically make them the leader. It was I who took charge, not KD, not Russell Westbrook, and not LeBron James, while I was playing for the Thunder.
