Falz Calls For Transparency After The Government Announced Its Efforts To Rescue Kidnapping Victims

Nigerian musician and activist Folarin Falana, known as Falz, has expressed concerns regarding the government’s lack of transparency in recent statements about the rescue of kidnapping victims in Kwara and Niger States.

The president announced the release of 38 individuals abducted from a church in Kwara State and 50 students among over 300 kidnapped in Niger State but provided limited details about the operation.

On social media, Falz questioned the circumstances surrounding the rescues, inquiring whether any arrests were made, if ransoms were paid, or what measures are being taken to prevent future abductions. He characterized the official announcements as inadequate and encouraged citizens to contact their elected representatives to demand accountability.

“Hi guys, the president announced yesterday that all 38 people kidnapped in the Kwara Church have regained their freedom, and that 50 out of the over 300 people kidnapped in Niger have also returned home. There was no mention of any arrests made, no indication of whether any ransom was paid, and no information about anyone being held accountable. This does not cut it. It is just not enough,” Falz stated.

He also called for public engagement and proposed coordinated efforts to pressure lawmakers for a televised public hearing: “We need to call for a public hearing, broadcast on live TV, live streamed for anyone anywhere in the world to watch… We need to send these messages immediately. This is a national emergency. We can’t continue like this.”

Falz’s remarks reflect growing frustration among citizens regarding Nigeria’s security issues, emphasizing the demand for more detailed reporting and greater accountability from government and security agencies.
