EFCC Announces Significant Update In The High-Profile Case Involving The Okoye Family

The legal dispute between Nigerian singer Peter Okoye and his elder brother, Jude Okoye, has taken a notable turn following a statement from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) indicating that there is no evidence to support the fraud claims against Jude.

Peter Okoye accused Jude, the former manager of the music group P-Square, of misappropriating funds belonging to the group. Jude was detained by the EFCC for over two months before being released on bail while the case proceeded through the legal system.

In a court session at the Lagos State Special Offences Court in Ikeja on November 28, 2025, EFCC counsel Mohammed Bashir confirmed that the commission lacked the documentation necessary to support the allegation that Jude misappropriated $800,000 from P-Square. Bashir stated that Peter Okoye would need to provide evidence for his accusations, as the EFCC could not present evidence it did not have.

This case traces back to 2024, when Jude and his company, Northside Music Limited, were alleged to have converted $1 million and £34,000 in royalties from digital music distribution and publishing that belonged to P-Square. The EFCC claimed that $767,544.15 paid by Lex Records Limited for digital distribution was allegedly misappropriated with the intent to deny Peter his share. Jude was granted bail of N50 million on March 6, 2025.

The family conflict has also impacted personal relationships within the Okoye family. Paul Okoye, Peter’s twin, reportedly aligned himself with Jude and unfollowed Peter on social media, while the twins have ceased musical collaborations. This rift has also affected their spouses, as Peter’s wife, Lola, has been seen bonding with Paul’s former wife, Anita Okoye, sharing photos and spending time together.

Peter Okoye has continued to testify against Jude in court, underscoring the deep divisions within what was once a united music family.
