E-40’s legendary status precedes him and requires no further introduction. The 57-year-old California-based rapper and business owner has been in the music industry since he was only 19 years old. Approximately a month prior, fellow California icon and long-time collaborator Too Short released a single titled “Still Mackin,” a track that served as a statement indicating the 59-year-old had no intention of retiring in the near future. E-40 has taken a similar approach here, which is not unexpected given his productive history.
The latest track from E-40 is called “Beating They Ass,” a name that revisits familiar ground for the artist. The beat is fairly unimpressive, failing to really stand out as something exceptional for him, even though he has previously performed well over great beats. While unmistakably having a West Coast feel, it doesn’t particularly offer anything else beyond that distinctive flavour.
E-40 is delivering his rhymes in a purely punchline-driven style lyrically. He’s consistently demonstrated a knack for witty lyrics, often inserting humorous lines at the right moments. The entire song consists of him delivering such lines, though not all of them hit the mark, he’s so charming that he can recover from each miss and seamlessly move on to the next one. E-40 revealed on Instagram that he is set to release two new albums, Rule of Thumb 2 and Rule of Thumb 3. Although no formal release date was specified for the announcement, it would not be unexpected if fans received one or both of those albums by the end of 2025. His most recent song can be heard in the section that follows.
