Doja Cat felt compelled to exorcise Scarlet from her system. The artist from “Agora Hills” reflected on her fourth rap-focused studio album in a New York Times interview published on September 5, likening it to a “massive fart.”

She clarified to the publication that, despite its significance, it was essentially a massive fart in her opinion. Fixing that issue would involve creating music that is more emotionally intense, more emotional, or possibly more aggressive or more melancholic.

Scarlet was an attempt by Doja to be viewed as a more serious lyricist, with success in tracks such as “Attention,” “WYM Freestyle,” and the highly successful “Paint The Town Red.” Admitting further on the project, Doja stated, “And I enjoyed performing it onstage, but it didn’t fully satisfy me.” I want to go back to what I am familiar with.

The Times noted that Doja’s “return” signifies her shift back to pop music on Vie. The upcoming project was labelled as a continuation of Planet Her and Hot Pink, but now featuring updated ’80s synthesizers and an upbeat tempo in the R&B genre.

The “Ouchies” rapper noted that it’s overtly sexy and becomes somewhat silly, which is likable and enjoyable. “I’m always trying to strike a balance between having fun and being too uncool.” She enlisted the help of Jack Antonoff, who was responsible for producing nine out of the album’s 15 tracks. The duo collaborated on the song “Jealous Type” from last month.

For the time being, it appears that Doja is committed to moving away from rap music. Interestingly, Scarlet, which Rap-Up included on its list of the Best Rap Albums of 2023, is not the first album she has shifted away from in favour of a new full-length release.

Fans may remember her calling Planet Her and Hot Pink “mediocre pop” albums that were little more than “cash-grabs” just before releasing Scarlet.
