Nigerian singer Davido, a winner of awards, has expressed his desire to join the film industry, and is enthusiastic about acting and producing genuine African stories.

The Afrobeats artist revealed his intentions during a discussion at the 2025 Africa International Film Festival, which took place in Lagos. Davido expressed his enthusiasm to extend his creative horizons beyond music at the session called “Rhythms of the Continent: The Afrobeat Movement and Its Impacts on African Film.”

In his opinion, acting has been an aspiration he has always wanted to pursue, and he aspires to land a straightforward yet impactful part.

“My brother expressed a desire to give me a part, and I informed him that I wanted to play a taxi driver or something unusual,” he said with a laugh.

Davido, whose real name is David Adeleke, stated that his passion for film is driven by his aim to showcase African narratives on a worldwide level. He draws inspiration from international stars who have successfully combined music and acting, with 50 Cent being one of his key influences.

He explicitly expressed a desire to become involved in the film industry. “It’s another method to share our narratives and display to the world the wealth of African culture.”

In addition to acting, Davido expressed his desire to enter the film production industry, with a focus on storytelling that showcases African identity and culture. He mentioned his respect for story-driven films and series such as Uncorked, which explore themes of culture and personal development.

The absent crooner underscored that both African music and cinema have become potent instruments for shaping global perspectives and honouring the continent’s inventiveness.

Davido stated that he hopes to bridge the gap between the music and film industries by contributing to Africa’s growing influence on the global entertainment scene.
