Daniel Caesar & Bon Iver – Moon

Daniel Caesar Bon Iver Moon

Daniel Caesar has released a new single, which is his third one from the upcoming album Son of Spergy. His latest release is “Moon,” the initial of two songs on the album to include Bon Iver. The track captures him in a state of intense longing, with lyrics mainly centered around a woman, but also touches on self-doubt and feelings of isolation.

While Caesar’s lyrics may not be overly complicated, they typically need multiple listenings to grasp their intended meaning. “He’d rather fight for you / The only way he knows that is sustainable,” he begins the second verse. The song concludes with him inquiring who will be his “Jesus,” seeking supporters who will be on his side. It is evident that this woman cannot be the intended subject of the song.

In terms of sound, “Have A Baby (With Me)” seemed more akin to a Frank Ocean song. “Call On Me” incorporated 2000s indie rock elements while still adhering to Caesar’s typical vocal style. “Moon” is a striking track that bears resemblance to an earlier Bon Iver song, drawing inspiration from contemporaneous acts like Justin Vernon.

At the start, Vernon doesn’t have distinctive contributions to the track, but his presence becomes more pronounced when he delivers the backing vocals in the final minute. The various elements of this song complement each other well, and it will be intriguing to discover the sound of the remainder of this album. The release date for Son of Spergy is October 24.
