Nigerian nightlife figure Cubana Chief Priest has generated discussion on social media following South African artist Tyla’s recent Grammy win, which he deemed noteworthy for overshadowing his close friend Davido.

Tyla, at 24 years old, won her second Grammy Award in the Best African Music Performance category during the 68th Grammy Awards, held on February 1, 2026, at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, California.

Her popular song “Push 2 Start” from the album Tyla overcame strong competition from other artists, including Ayra Starr and Wizkid’s “Gimme Dat,” Burna Boy’s “Love,” Davido and Omah Lay’s “With You,” and Eddy Kenzo and Mehran Matin’s “Hope & Love.”

The official Grammy Instagram account, which has 3.8 million followers, announced the win, stating:

“That’s GRAMMY-Winning Tyla to you! Tyla won Best African Music Performer award for ‘PUSH 2 START’.”

In the comments section, Cubana Chief Priest expressed his criticism of Tyla, suggesting her success may not be entirely based on talent alone, but rather influenced by powerful figures within the Grammy organization. He referred to her as an “Industry Plantain,” a term that plays on “Industry Plant,” indicating that her achievements might have been supported by behind-the-scenes industry connections rather than purely organic recognition.

Cubana Chief Priest’s remarks have ignited discussions online, with comments split among those supporting Tyla’s success and others resonating with his critique.
