Speculation is increasing regarding the future of Afropop singer Crayon at Mavin Records following the release of his latest single, “Baami.”

This new track was released under a different label, Olodum Ent., rather than under Mavin, which has been associated with the singer since his rise to fame in 2019. This change has prompted discussions among fans and industry observers, with many questioning whether the artist may be in the process of leaving the label.

Crayon, whose real name is Charles Chibueze Chukwu, initially advanced through Mavin’s talent pipeline before officially signing with Blowtime Entertainment, a label connected to Mavin, in 2019. Under the management of label head Don Jazzy, he developed a prominent reputation in the Afrobeats genre with hit songs like “Ijo (Laba Laba)” and his debut album Trench to Triumph, which was released in 2023.

However, the release of “Baami” has drawn attention. The single, produced by his regular collaborator Ozedikus, came out without the typical Mavin branding and promotional support generally associated with releases from the label. The lack of backing from Mavin’s official channels has fueled further speculation.

Additionally, observers noted that the singer recently updated his social media bio and profile picture coinciding with the track’s release, an action many fans interpret as indicative of a new phase in his career.

This discussion occurs amid Mavin Records’ significant global expansion following its acquisition by Universal Music Group in a notable deal in 2024.

Despite the ongoing speculation, neither Crayon nor Mavin Records has issued an official response regarding the matter. It remains uncertain whether the Olodum Ent. label represents a full departure from Mavin, an independent project, or merely a temporary arrangement for this release.

In the meantime, fans of the singer have taken to social media to share their reactions, expressing enthusiasm for his new music while also seeking clarity on his future with the influential label.

Currently, this situation has led fans to closely monitor developments to determine whether this signals the beginning of a new independent phase for the artist.
