Coi Leray is expressing her heartbreak in the most authentic way she can think of: via her music. The artist premiered her What Happened To Forever? project at midnight on Wednesday, February 12. The EP, which is named after her tumultuous breakup with Trippie Redd, appears to delve into the details of their separation.

The five-track release began with “Keep It,” where Leray sang, “Every time I caught you being unfaithful / I should have taken your life, but now you’re going to have to face this / Supposedly, you were supposed to bring me peace, but you shattered me into fragments.” Remarkably, it was among the initial tracks previewed prior to the last-minute album release, and arguably one of her most emotionally exposed.

The project then transitioned into “Leave You Alone,” a song in which Leray grapples with the reality that some things are not destined to endure. “She should have been honest, but you were being deceitful,” she stated on the Taylor Hill-produced track.

When the EP concludes with “Lick Back,” Leray has fully asserted herself. On the track, she boasts about limiting her interactions to wealthy men and professional ball players, similar to Babe Ruth, while flaunting “big diamond chains” among other bold and boastful lyrics. A notable contrast to the more intense earlier scenes in the project, this new development brings a welcome sense of happiness.

Rapper Coi Leray has previously spoken publicly about being cheated on.

Leray initially suggested Redd’s alleged infidelity on January 22, shortly after revealing her pregnancy. Being cheated on is one of the most distressing experiences. She expressed on her Instagram Story that she wouldn’t wish this pain on her worst enemy. Consequently, social media users were quick to make connections, particularly given that the “Dark Knight Dummo” rapper has not yet refuted her allegations.

The situation became even more complicated when the EC2 creator found himself engaged in a back-and-forth with one of Redd’s former partners – not the individual with whom he was accused of infidelity. Following accusations of “ruining a happy home” from multiple TikTok users, Ayleks chose to share screenshots of their conversation. The Grammy nominee understandably described her as a “f**king loser” for creating unnecessary drama that she had not initiated.

The Artist’s Debut Project With Epic Records Is Titled ‘What Happened To Forever?’

The album What Happened To Forever? not only provided a cathartic outlet for the New Jersey rapper, but it also marked her comeback to the major label industry. Ahead of the EP’s release, Leray confirmed that she has signed with Epic Records, which currently represents notable artists such as 21 Savage, DDG, and Tyla, among others.

She expressed her gratitude to Epic, stating they are one of the labels that truly understand her as both an artist and an individual, during an interview with The Hollywood Reporter on February 11. “When working with a major label, all an artist can reasonably expect is that they will be supported rather than dictated to.”

Leray’s debut albums, Trendsetter and COI, were initially released under Republic Records, enabling the label to disseminate her most notable tracks, such as “Blick Blick,” “TWINNEM” and “Players.” Following that, she transitioned to Island Records before taking a brief stint as an independent artist in 2024. Fingers crossed that the next chapter in her career will be equally promising.
