Many individuals within hip-hop communities have overlooked Chance the Rapper following the Chicago native’s unfortunate debut, The Big Day. Generally, it was difficult to contest those who had written him off, particularly given the significant time he took between projects. However, it is fair to assert that STAR LINE marks a remarkable comeback for this genre-defying multi-talented artist.

In the eighth track, “Space & Time,” which fuses hip-hop with Afrobeats, Chance the Rapper contemplates his journey back. He vividly illustrates this struggle with lines such as, “On my face are battle scars that surely scare a child / I’ve been gone awhile, and I’m not so proud / If there’s still some space for me / I was hoping I could fit.”

The song also addresses his divorce from his wife of five years, Kirsten Corley, and the complexities of co-parenting. “You said ‘It’s too late for that / But you should see how big she is.'” Chance the Rapper elaborated on the song during his interview with CBS Mornings.

“I think it’s a very personal song about, you know, what we were just talking about, navigating that relationship with the mother of my children.”

In summary, it is a track rich with various messages and interpretations, demonstrating that Chance the Rapper has not lost his creative edge. It is emotional, uplifting, and an exquisite piece of music overall, featuring cinematic surges of orchestral instrumentation.
