Cardi B is unbeaten in 2025, including in court proceedings. On Tuesday, September 2, a Los Angeles jury found in her favour following an accusation of assault in a $24 million lawsuit brought by a security guard.

The jurors reached a verdict in under an hour, acquitting the “Outside” artist of all responsibility. The guard, Emani Ellis, alleged that Cardi had scratched her face with her fingernail and spat on her in the hallway of a Beverly Hills OB-GYN office in February 2018. According to Rolling Stone, both parties concurred that the altercation occurred after Ellis attempted to film Cardi, who was secretly expecting her first child with Offset at the time.

Even on my deathbed, I will swear that I never laid a hand on that woman. I did not come into contact with that girl. The Grammy-winning rapper told reporters outside the courthouse that he hadn’t touched the girl. She also issued a stern warning to anyone contemplating filing another “frivolous lawsuit” against her, stating she would counter with a countersuit.

She went on to say, “You’re going to have to pay, because this isn’t acceptable.” I’m not the celebrity you’re suing, and you think will settle. I’m not willing to compromise. When I’m completely innocent, it’s especially the case. I’m aware I’ve earned a certain reputation, but I solemnly declare that I am guiltless. I am swearing an oath on a higher power. I’m genuinely innocent, no joke.

In her initial court documents, Ellis portrayed a significantly bleaker scene of the confrontation. She claimed that Cardi had physically assaulted her, spat on her, and hurled racist insults. The musician’s celebrity status and the clash are said to have cost her her job. Ellis ultimately dropped her initial $24 million claim and requested compensation for medical expenses plus an additional $250,000 instead.

On the stand, Cardi described the confrontation as nothing more than a screaming match. She remembered screaming, “B**ch, get the f**k out of my face,” before dismissing any accusation of a physical attack. I wasn’t struck by her. I didn’t strike her. The rapper swore that there was no physical contact.

As Cardi noted, the trial couldn’t have coincided at a worse moment. She missed her kids’ first day of school due to a court appearance and humorously said her forehead felt “raw, raw, raw” after undergoing numerous wig changes throughout the case. On top of that, she’s in the midst of releasing her new album, AM I THE DRAMA.

Referring to her highly anticipated second album, Cardi B gave fans a preview of a new song. She previewed a track with the working title “Bodega Baddie,” which may end up on the forthcoming release.
