Rappers taking each other to court seems to be gaining traction, with Cam’ron allegedly suing J. Cole over their collaborative song “Ready 24.”

The track in question was initially released on Cole’s 2024 mixtape Might Delete Later. The song is produced by T-Minus, DZL, WU10 and AzizTheShake, in addition to incorporating bars from Cam’ron.

According to TMZ, Camron alleges in the lawsuit that Cole agreed to a future collaboration in exchange for writing the lyrics and contributing a verse to the song. Alternatively, if the collaboration did not materialize, the North Carolina-based rapper would make an appearance on Harlem artist Cole’s “It Is What It Is” podcast.

Cam’ron claims that two years following their initial recording of the song, J. Cole has failed to fulfill both of their commitments as per their agreement. The “Oh Boy” rapper stated that the track was recorded in 2022 and he maintained contact with Cole between July 2023 and April 2024. Cam’ron asserts that Cole told him repeatedly that he was unavailable for the podcast, yet another song never materialised.

Cam’ron is demanding co-writer credit for “Ready ’24” and a detailed accounting of the song’s earnings. The creator of Purple Haze thinks the song, which reworks the same Barbara Mason sample used in the Diplomats’ track “I’m Ready,” has earned over $500,000 and he is seeking his portion of the revenue it has produced. At the time of reporting, the song remains accessible on music streaming platforms such as Apple Music, Tidal, and Spotify.

In recent times, several instances of Hip Hop-related lawsuits have emerged. Cam’ron was reportedly supposed to be taken to court by Damon Dash for making defamatory statements. Up to now, that lawsuit has not resulted in a court case. A recent lawsuit that has garnered significant attention is Drake suing his own record label for allegedly assisting Kendrick Lamar in defaming him with “Not Like Us.” A judge in early October dismissed the lawsuit against Drake, prompting his team to seek an official appeal.

So far, there has been no word from Cole’s team regarding Cam’ron’s lawsuit. A phone call between these two is long overdue.
