Burna Boy Responds To Discussion Between Wizkid And Seun Kuti

Grammy-winning Afrobeat artist Damini Ogulu, known as Burna Boy, has offered his perspective in light of the ongoing discussion involving Wizkid and Seun Kuti, the son of renowned musician Fela Anikulapo-Kuti.

In a video that has circulated on social media, Burna Boy spoke openly about his position in the music hierarchy. While honoring Afrobeat pioneer Fela, he stated that there is only one artist he considers to be superior to himself.

With respect, Burna Boy referred to Fela as the ultimate symbol of Afrobeat, recognizing his significant legacy and influence on African music and culture. However, he also made a notable statement regarding his own status in the industry.

He remarked,

“Fela is the king. He is the only one greater than me.”

This statement has since generated responses online, with fans commenting on Burna Boy’s confidence and his respect for the Afrobeat legend whose influence continues to resonate with new generations of artists.

On a recent episode of the What I Know podcast, Sodimu discussed the unique strengths of the Afrobeats “Big 3”: Davido, Burna Boy, and Wizkid. He noted that while all three have considerable influence, their impacts extend in different directions beyond music.

Sodimu observed that Burna Boy has established himself as a leading global performer, recognized for his strong stage presence and international appeal. Wizkid, in contrast, has a dedicated fanbase that displays an almost cult-like loyalty. Meanwhile, Davido is characterized as an artist whose influence goes beyond the realm of music.

“The Big 3 are all doing music for different reasons,” Sodimu explained. “Burna Boy has conquered the stage, and he is exceptional. Wizkid is distinct. But Davido surpasses music.”
