BOJ, a famous singer from Nigeria, has shared the artists who have influenced him, naming both personal favourite musicians and renowned industry icons who have helped mould his musical style.

Nigerian Alté sensation BOJ (Bolaji Odojukan) has revealed the names of artists who have most inspired him, citing Asa, Wizkid, Davido, and Burna Boy as among his personal favourite artists.

In a recent podcast interview with Madame Joyce, the Money & Laughter singer reminisced about the musicians who moulded his artistic style and still guide his creative vision. He expressed particular admiration for soul-folk icon Asa, attributing her music as one of his greatest inspirations.

“I love Aṣa a lot, that’s like one of my favourite artists,” BOJ said, praising her timeless contribution to Nigerian music.

The podcast host’s admission that she was unfamiliar with Aṣa sparked a lively conversation when BOJ began discussing her influence and contribution to Nigerian music.

Building on his list, BOJ also mentioned Afrobeats stars Wizkid, Davido, and Burna Boy, along with influential artists such as Don Jazzy, D’Banj, and M.I Abaga. In his view, these artists embody distinct eras of Nigerian music that continue to mould the country’s evolving soundscape.

Boj’s comments underscore the profound link between Nigeria’s past and present music industries, illustrating how the current Alté movement stems from the groundwork laid by influential artists such as Asa, and adopts the global impact of modern celebrities.
