Blood Orange, a singer, songwriter, and producer, is finally set to release new music this weekend. An English-born and New York-based talent has been shrouded in mystery over the last decade. It has been since September 2022 that Dev Hynes released anything new as a solo artist.

He then released a four-track EP called Four Songs. It’s been an even longer time since his last album was released. To do that, you would have to go back to July 2019. In that year, Blood Orange released Angel’s Pulse, with Tinashe, Justine Skye, Project Pat, Gangsta Boo, and Toro y Moi serving as its headlining guests.

We’re glad to hear that Blood Orange is once again producing music. It’s worth mentioning, however, that the multi-talented individual has been occupied with other pursuits. According to Stereogum, he composed the score for the Broadway project JOB, and has been secretly assisting other artists such as Lorde with their music.

He considers “The Field” to be his main project and has a large ensemble cast backing him up. The Durutti Column, Tariq Al-Sabir, Caroline Polachek, and Daniel Caesar are all part of the mix.

The track features a moody atmosphere and relaxed tempo with harmonious vocal collaborations and intermittently played guitar melodies. Lyrically, it’s unfortunately quite sparse. We’re sensing emotions of sadness and love, as well as conveying the difficulty of letting something positive slip away.
