Bas, The Hics & Ab-Soul – Norbit

Bas is steadfastly flying the Dreamville banner, and he may be undertaking his most ambitious sonic expedition in the near future. The collaborative album Melanchronica, featuring The Hics, is scheduled for release on June 17. Fortunately for those eagerly awaiting the project’s release, another preview is now available.

The track “Norbit” showcases Ab-Soul’s skills on a melodic, atmospheric, and aesthetically pleasing beat, in which he performs a standout verse in conjunction with the lyrical expertise of the French-born Paris native. In contrast, his prior solo release for Melanchronica, “Everyday Ppl,” had a more relaxed and mellow tone.

In this instance, “Norbit” is a melancholy track about unrequited love, with both MCs passionately weighing the positive aspects against the negative consequences. The drum drop and ethereal background pads also contribute to the sonic clash. The instrumentation has a down-to-earth quality, yet the production still possesses a gritty, alien-like quality. Paired with energetic deliveries and rhythmic flows, it results in a highly dynamic and engaging experience.

Additionally to what’s already on the horizon, Ab-Soul has more music in store, with a recent preview of a collaboration with Roc Marciano. It’s likely that Norbit will not be the final collaboration between these two as they possess considerable on-screen chemistry and complementary abilities.

Bas has weathered some difficulties recently, but he appears eager and enthusiastic to unveil this project to enthusiasts sometime later this year. The artist behind “Not What You Think” is now heading in a more openly soulful and naturally melancholic path with The Hics. The English band is unlocking the full potential of his artistic skills, with a reciprocal influence that is eagerly anticipated.
