Kendrick Lamar’s surprise sixth studio album, GNX, provided a platform for several emerging artists from the West Coast, notably including AzChike, who was born Damaria Kayshawn Walker. On Friday, 14 March, the native of South Central disclosed to Nessa Diab on HOT 97 that his contribution to the track “peekaboo” had an immediate impact and led him to sign a deal with Warner Records just a few weeks following its release.
According to my information, the release date of GNX was November 22nd. Three weeks after signing, AzChike sealed his deal with Warner Records. Things escalated from there. It underwent a sudden and significant change, happening very quickly. In a positive manner. I was more than capable of dealing with it.
The “Burn Rubber Again” creator acknowledged he’s the more established artist of all the featured artists, and his statement has merit. GNX also made notable contributions on “luther” and “gloria,” in addition to helping introduce several emerging artists, including Dody6 on “hey now,” Lefty Gunplay on “tv off” and also on the track “dodger blue” assisted by Roddy Ricch, which also featured Wallie the Sensei and Siete7x on the chorus. The title track featured guest appearances by Hitta J3, YoungThreat, and Peysoh.
AzChike Has Been Working Diligently For An Extended Period
It’s worth noting that unlike a few of the previously mentioned names, AzChike’s ascent did not begin with a Lamar endorsement. Fans who have been supporting him for a long time may recall his work from 2017’s ‘Chike the Great’ and ‘Cult UP’, both of which played a significant role in establishing his presence in the West Coast underground scene. Looking back on his path, he gained a new understanding: “It wasn’t until now, but I’d say it has taken 10 years.” After recognition, it will be seven years.
Kendrick Lamar’s Feud With Drake Didn’t Faze AzChike One Bit
AzChike, who has stated that he’s a person who values good friendships, reaffirmed his commitment to supporting Lamar in any situation. Regrettably, my loyalty is absolute. When I’m riding with you, I’ll stick by your side, he said, recalling last year’s “euphoria” where he’d famously stated: “Screw it, I’ll take the consequences.” It was all about that level of loyalty.
