The Nigerian Afrobeats sensation Asake has addressed the buzz surrounding his face tattoos, which ignited a flurry of discussions on social media. During his appearance at the 2025 Grammy Awards, the “Mr Money” artist, who made a significant impact on the music scene in 2022, revealed the reasons for his striking new look, which includes extensive facial ink and a fresh haircut, following a brief hiatus.

Initially, this dramatic change raised concerns among his fans, leading to rampant speculation across various social media platforms about the reasons for such a bold transformation. However, while on the red carpet at the Grammy Awards, Asake clarified that his new appearance is rooted in personal self-expression.

“This reflects how I feel at this moment,” he stated, addressing the ongoing discussions. “I prioritize my comfort and pursue what I believe is right for me. It is not about anyone else.” He further emphasized his fluidity in self-expression by stating, “I might wake up tomorrow and decide to remove all the tattoos.”

Asake celebrated a significant achievement in his career with his first Grammy nomination in the Best African Music Performance category, thanks to his remarkable collaboration with Olamide on ‘New Religion.’ This recognition also included his dynamic track “MMS,” featuring fellow Nigerian superstar Wizkid.

His debut album, ‘Mr. Money with the Vibe,’ reached the top of the charts, establishing his presence in the music industry. He continued to build on this success with ‘Work of Art’ in 2023, which included popular tracks like “Lonely at the Top.” His latest album, ‘Lungu Boy,’ further highlights his artistic evolution, showcasing a blend of innovative sounds and profound storytelling.
