Asa Asika, The Manager Of Davido, Ignites Discussions Online With A Recent Post

Asa Asika, the manager of Afrobeats artist Davido, has sparked online discussions after making a post that many interpret as a subtle criticism of Wizkid.

This comes at a time when Wizkid is in the spotlight for reportedly surpassing ₦10 billion in streams on Spotify, making him the first African artist to achieve this feat. This milestone has elicited significant celebration among his fans, some of whom have dubbed him the “New Fela.” However, this comparison did not sit well with Seun Kuti, who expressed his disagreement and initiated a tense online exchange.

In the midst of this conversation, Asa Asika appeared to weigh in indirectly. He shared a post on his Instagram Stories that questioned the practice of measuring success exclusively by streaming numbers. His message suggested that if streaming figures alone constitute “winning,” then the difficulties some artists experience with touring are incongruent.

For context, Wizkid’s last major tour followed the release of Made In Lagos (Deluxe), but he did not tour for More Love, Less Ego, and his anticipated Morayo tour for 2025 was ultimately canceled.

Asa Asika emphasized his viewpoint by posting a photo of American rapper and producer J. Cole, accompanied by the caption: “If the streams say you’re winni’, why your tours is losin’?” – J. Cole on birthday Blizzard’26.

This post garnered significant attention and sparked ongoing debates on social media regarding the relationship between streaming success, touring capabilities, and the true definition of success in the current music landscape.
