Anthony Joshua Injured In Car Crash In Nigeria That Resulted In Two Deaths — Current Information

Anthony Joshua experienced minor injuries following a car accident in Nigeria that resulted in the deaths of two other passengers. On Monday, December 29, police confirmed that the incident occurred around 11 a.m. on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway near Sagamu, Ogun State.

Although the former world heavyweight champion was not driving, he was a passenger in a Lexus SUV that collided with a stationary truck parked along the roadway. “Early indications are that he is OK but waiting on further official news,” said a representative for Joshua to ESPN.

Regarding the cause of the accident, a statement from the Ogun State Police Command indicated, “The vehicle conveying Anthony Joshua, a Lexus SUV, was involved in the accident under circumstances that are currently being investigated.”

Preliminary findings indicate that the Lexus Jeep, which was suspected to be travelling beyond the legally prescribed speed limit on the corridor, lost control during an overtaking manoeuvre and crashed into a stationary truck well packed by the side of the road.

The statement continued, “He was seated in the rear of the vehicle, sustained minor injuries and is receiving medical attention. Tragically, two other passengers in the vehicle lost their lives at the scene.” It further explained that “the accident happened as a result of a burst tire on AJ’s vehicle, which caused the driver to lose control and the vehicle to swerve into the stationary truck parked along the road.”

Footage shared online showed the Nigerian British boxer being assisted out of the damaged vehicle by a man in a suit, as onlookers gathered with their phones. Joshua was later taken to a hospital, while the deceased passengers were transported to Livewell Hospital Morgue in Sagamu.
