Atlanta-based rapper Young Thug is at the heart of a developing controversy following the circulation of numerous online leaks of allegedly recorded jail calls. Audio recordings circulating on social media allegedly contain comments about colleagues in the music industry who are involved in the ongoing YSL RICO case.

A clip appears to feature Thug’s voice, in which he is heard criticising the rap group Migos while discussing Quality Control Music. People are only purchasing your label because of Lil Baby, the voice claimed. They’re not investing in your branding because of the lack of Migos involvement. The guys in the red hats aren’t making any money.

A second alleged call claimed that $50,000 was spent on fake streams in an attempt to secure Gunna’s DS4Ever number one spot. The album ranked 1 position above The Weeknd’s Dawn FM in 2022. The same recording indicated that Young Thug was contemplating releasing Business Is Business on the same day as Gunna’s A Gift & a Curse in order to impede its commercial performance.

Further discussions included remarks regarding Lil Baby and Quality Control’s CEO Pierre “P” Thomas. A man claiming to be 21 Savage spoke publicly about others taking sides, while Thomas himself responded online with a mocking post regarding snitching allegations.

The additional clips include alleged comments made by Gucci Mane, with the YSL leader claiming the veteran rapper “turned soft” following a prison sentence. Earlier recordings had featured him seemingly referencing producer Wheezy and others. None of the individuals named have confirmed the authenticity of the recording.

A 2015 interrogation video resurfaced, sparking controversy as it appears to show a man who is alleged to be Thugger discussing the shooting of Lil Wayne’s tour bus and apparently naming Peewee Roscoe. The clip sparked allegations of “snitching,” a claim that has been widely discussed within the Atlanta rap community since the YSL trial started.

Young Thug has maintained that he is not collaborating with law enforcement. In posts on X, he wrote: “I’d rather die than be one of those kids, especially when it comes to such a principle as ‘death before dishonor’.” He also submitted a legal motion disputing allegations that he made statements to the authorities. Roscoe publicly defended him, saying, “Jeff is as clean as Listerine… I served the time.” I carried out that task. This is what you do. ATL rapper Ralo, who had previously been accused of snitching, entered into a brief and heated exchange with the “Best Friend” label.

Reactions to the situation have come from outside Atlanta. The rapper and entrepreneur 50 Cent appeared to allude to the controversy in an Instagram post featuring a man dancing in the rain. “This is how you have to move in the streets now because these people are warning you,” he captioned. Be cautious from now on. The post was made without mentioning Thug by name, but it coincided with ongoing discussions regarding alleged recordings and a resurfaced interrogation clip.
