Poizen – Ngiphe

“Ngiphe” is Poizen’s latest full-length endeavour, a profoundly personal and sonically rich collection that solidifies his status as one of the most expressive voices in contemporary Amapiano and Afro-soul. Throughout the album, Poizen combines sincere lyrics, soothing harmonies, and versatile production, crafting a sonic landscape that is both personal and far-reaching.

Poizen and Kelvin Momo recently featured on “Came To Say Hi” alongside Brandon Dhludhlu and Shino Kikai.

It’s evident from the opening track that this album has its foundation in narrative. Poizen employs Ngiphe, which is Zulu for “Give me”, as a thematic centre, examining desires, emotional requirements, and the intricacies of love and human bonding. The feeling of vulnerability is present in each song, encompassing various emotions such as the longing for understanding, the joy of romantic connection, or the quiet pain of loss.

The project smoothly transitions between soulful Amapiano rhythms, mid-tempo ballads, and understated jazz-infused chord progressions. Poizen works with a diverse range of producers to create unique sonic profiles for each track, all while maintaining their cohesive place within the album’s emotional narrative. Warm, cohesive textures are achieved through recurring elements of soft keys, mellow log drums, and layered vocal harmonies.
