AJ Tracey – Crush ft. Jorja Smith

AJ Tracey Crush ft. Jorja Smith

UK grime scene stalwart AJ Tracey has been a prominent figure for several years. To his credit, he boasts a multitude of highly acclaimed projects. Tracey may not have reached the same level of fame as some of his peers, such as Skepta, to illustrate. He commands respect from his colleagues and continues to produce music that his followers appreciate. His latest single, “Crush,” has just been released on Wednesday and includes a collaboration with the highly talented Jorja Smith. A preview of Smith’s lyrical contribution was made available a few days prior, achieving some momentum prior to the track’s launch. Tracey and Smith exchange bars over a sample of Brandy’s “Love Wouldn’t Count Me Out,” which originated from her 2002 album, Full Moon.

The outcome is a track that possesses a considerable quantity of energy. The track also features a narrative element, as AJ Tracey delivers an initial verse expressing affection towards his partner. He makes a veiled threat to have her “ex-link popped” at a pivotal moment. Jorja Smith portrays a scorned girlfriend, confronting Tracey about the insincerity of his statements and implying that he’s been unfaithful and wants to pursue a relationship with the person he’s been cheating with. Smith feels completely comfortable with the production, marking a shift from the neo-soul-influenced sounds she usually sings to. She also delivers a smooth hook, asking the boy in question for love and support. The resulting track features two impressive performances by skilled artists, a collaboration that is particularly noteworthy given the artists’ lack of previous joint work together. Take a look at “Crush” down below.
