A$AP Ferg has observed the rise of artists A$AP Rocky, Kendrick Lamar, and Drake closely. In a recent interview with “The Bootleg Kev Podcast,” he shared insights regarding the tensions that appear to exist between these artists.

The discussion between Bootleg Kev and Ferg included various topics, such as the late A$AP Yams, Harlem rappers, and even Playboi Carti. Given the conflicts involving Kendrick Lamar and Drake, along with the issues Rocky has faced, Ferg’s perspective adds depth to the conversation.

In 2012, both Rocky and Kendrick were supporting acts on Drake’s “Club Paradise Tour.” Ferg joined Rocky on that tour, providing him with a front-row view of the emerging stars and how their relationships changed over time.

Ferg noted, “[Drake] had great showmanship… He knew how to rock a crowd.” Kev pointed out that the artists from the “Club Paradise Tour” now appear to be at odds. Ferg responded thoughtfully, suggesting that such dynamics are common.

“I feel like that’s kind of natural, though, because even when you think about the family dynamic and like, little brother, big brother things, a lot of the times a little brother wanna grow up and prove himself and don’t want to be under the wing of the big brother,” Ferg explained. “That happens a lot; people grow into individuals.”

He also mentioned that individual talents developing can contribute to these changes. “A lot of the times, where we start is not who we really are,” Ferg stated. “We’re still growing into the person we are. So, the K. Dot that was on tour, or the Drake that was on tour, or the Rocky that was on tour, or the Ferg that was on tour, is not that same person. We were still learning ourselves during that time, so when you grow, you can’t expect for the relationship to be the same.”

Over the span of a dozen years, the landscape has shifted. In 2024, after numerous indirect references in their music, Lamar directed a clear message at Drake in the song “Like That” from Metro Boomin and Future’s WE DON’T TRUST YOU album. That same year, Rocky addressed Drizzy on “Show of Hands” from Metro and Future’s WE STILL DON’T TRUST YOU album.

Drake responded to both artists in “Family Matters.” The aftermath of these developments has become well-documented, with Ferg managing to stay out of the controversy for now.
