Mayorkun – Home Training

Nigerian singer Mayorkun has released his EP titled “Long Live, The Mayor!” starting with the single “Home Training,” which marks a decade in his music career. The track was produced by Fresh VDM and serves as the lead for the EP, while his earlier release “Kaluba” concludes the project. The song is featured on Apple Music’s list of Best New Songs.

In Nigerian slang, “home training” refers to the manners instilled by one’s family. Mayorkun suggests that love can temporarily cause someone to overlook those manners, making the title somewhat humorous. While he adopts a lighthearted tone, the underlying message is that love can influence behavior.

This release commemorates Mayorkun’s ten years in the music industry. He launched his career with the single “Eleko” under Davido’s DMW label, which he departed from in 2021. Following that, he released the album “Back in Office” through Sony Music, which included the track “Holy Father” featuring Victony.

Mayorkun received the Best New Act award at the Nigeria Entertainment Awards in 2017. He also appeared on Davido’s track “The Best” from the album “A Better Time,” where the music video depicted Davido mentoring him through a ninja-themed concept. Prior to this, he collaborated on “Bumpy Ride,” the tenth track on Harmonize’s 14-track album.

Listeners are encouraged to play “Home Training” and share their experiences in the comments about when love made them forget their manners.
