Album: Sminofu – iTekisi

The weekend has commenced with Maskandi artist Sminofu launching his new collection of songs through “iTekisi.”

Sminofu has made significant contributions to the Maskandi genre this year, and even if he does not release additional material, his works from 2026 will likely continue to receive airplay in various settings throughout the holiday season. His single “eMachobeni,” released in July, remains popular on the charts. While listeners are still exploring the depth of this song, he has already rolled out another set of tracks.

“iTekisi” concludes Sminofu’s releases for the year. He has designed all twelve tracks on the album to cater to large festival audiences, extended road trips, and personal listening experiences.

The album is a tribute to the venues that have helped elevate Maskandi as a prominent genre in the country, particularly taxi ranks. These locations play a crucial role in sustaining the Maskandi culture, allowing experiences from everyday life in townships to influence its melodies and essence.

It is interesting to note that Maskandi releases often achieve higher streaming numbers than some Amapiano hits, largely due to the influence of taxi rank operators and drivers. Sminofu acknowledges their contribution with his “iTekisi” album.
