Lil Wayne Reveals His Son Is Training With A Legendary NFL Hall Of Famer

Lil Wayne shared insights about his son’s journey from being a soccer player to becoming a Division I kicking prospect, highlighting how Dwayne Carter III secured his scholarship to Colorado through commitment and hard work.

During an appearance on “The Joint Venture Show” podcast, Lil Wayne expressed pride in his son’s athletic development, stressing that the opportunity arose solely from Dwayne’s efforts rather than any of Wayne’s connections or fame.

“It’s an array of amazing emotions, but considering his background, he’s primarily a soccer player,” Lil Wayne stated.

Dwayne Carter III made his debut in high school football for Gainesville High School in Georgia in the 2026 season, successfully completing two field goals in his first game against the defending national champion Buford, which was broadcast on ESPN2.

His transition to football was not typical, as he mainly focused on soccer and began kicking merely two years ago to stay fit during his soccer off-season.

What began as a means of conditioning evolved into a greater opportunity.

“Taking up kicking started about two years ago, just to prepare better for soccer during the off-season,” Lil Wayne noted.

The shift from soccer to football kicking illustrates how athletic adaptability can lead to unexpected opportunities.

Dwayne trained with the son of Hall of Famer Morten Andersen, who played 13 seasons with the New Orleans Saints and holds the NFL record for the most games played by a kicker, thereby receiving top-notch coaching from the outset.

His high school coaches saw his potential and motivated him to compete at higher levels.

“Once he made that team, he performed really well. He was encouraged to attend the school he is currently at, which is more advantageous for kickers and athletes in general,” Lil Wayne explained.

In June 2026, Dwayne received his first Division I scholarship offer from Colorado head coach Deion Sanders, noted as one of the most celebrated athletes in sports history.
