Shatta Wale Discusses The Deterioration Of His Friendship With Burna Boy

Ghanaian dancehall artist Shatta Wale discussed the decline of his friendship with Nigerian singer Burna Boy, attributing the rift to false rumors propagated by former members of his team.

During an appearance on The Honest Bunch Podcast, Shatta Wale mentioned that Burna Boy had contacted him prior to his visit to Ghana, a gesture that he appreciated as it indicated respect and trust, especially since Burna Boy was still establishing his career at that time.

Shatta Wale stated that he welcomed Burna Boy upon his arrival, ensuring his comfort by providing accommodation, transportation, and assistance while familiarizing him with life in Ghana.

“Burna Boy is the only artist who respectfully called me from Nigeria and informed me he was coming to Ghana. I picked him up at the airport, which was a first for me with any artist from Nigeria. I felt it was significant because he was still in a challenging phase in his career. I showed him around Ghana, offered him a house and cars, and ensured he didn’t spend unnecessarily. However, I had issues with my team, which I eventually decided to separate from. After dismissing several members, they began to spread false information about me. They reached out to wealthy contacts, claiming I was involved with their partners,”

he stated.

Shatta Wale claimed that following the dismissal of his former associates, they initiated a smear campaign, reaching out to influential figures in his life and making damaging allegations, targeting Burna Boy among others. He alleged that these former team members falsely accused him of being in a relationship with a woman who had accompanied Burna Boy to Ghana.

He noted that while they never directly discussed these allegations, he sensed a change in their relationship.

“They informed Burna Boy that I was involved with his companion during her visit to Ghana, and he accepted that narrative. They contacted my wealthy friends, trying to tarnish my reputation. After he left Ghana, our relationship changed, and although I continued to reach out to him as he progressed, he did not respond. I was unaware that he had been influenced by those rumors and chose to distance himself from me.”

Shatta Wale did not clarify whether he and Burna Boy have reconciled, but his remarks provide insight into what he believes contributed to the end of their previously supportive friendship.
