Album: Johnny Drille – Before The Morning Light

Johnny Drille has released his second studio album titled “Before The Morning Light,” featuring 14 tracks. This album reflects the evolving soundscape of contemporary Nigerian music.

With this project, Johnny Drille reinforces his position as a storyteller who blends various genres, including folk, soul, R&B, and Afropop, into a unified sonic experience.

The 14 tracks serve not only as a display of Drille’s vocal abilities but also highlight themes of collaboration, culture, and deep emotion.

Kicking off with “In Time” featuring Angélique Kidjo, the album initiates a conversation that bridges generations and cultures.

This is succeeded by “Mind” and “Blown Away,” which immerse listeners in rich harmonies and thoughtful lyrics, showcasing Drille’s talent for creating melodic anthems.

“Colorado,” featuring Ayra Starr and Young Jonn, stands out with its lively rhythms and memorable hooks, evoking the spirit of adventure and youth.

Likewise, “Chokehold” with Aqyila and “Waste Your Time” featuring JERUB illustrate Drille’s skill in selecting collaborators who enhance his style, each adding their distinct touch.

“I’m Available” and “Last Forever” return to themes of heartfelt balladry and the transient nature of love. “No Yawa” encourages a perspective of resilience in the face of life’s obstacles.

“Angelina,” featuring Fireboy DML, is a notable duet that merges Afropop and soul, with both artists offering striking performances that explore the nuances of modern romance.

“Over The Moon,” with Tiwa Savage, enriches the album with its smooth melodies and engaging lyrics, while “Speak Up,” with Lojay, advocates for vulnerability and open communication in relationships.

“What Is This Love,” with Nonso Amadi, examines the uncertainties and thrill of new love, combining atmospheric production with sincere confessions.

The album concludes with “Second Chance,” which thoughtfully reflects on themes of forgiveness, growth, and the hope for new beginnings.

Overall, “Before The Morning Light” is not merely a compilation of songs; it represents an exploration of love, self-discovery, and human connections.
