Skales Discusses His Experience Of Missing A $300,000 Jewelry Deal

Nigerian singer Skales has discussed a missed business opportunity that could have earned him over $300,000, while comparing the financial realities of the music and football industries.

In a recent interview, Skales reflected on a potential luxury jewelry deal linked to a young footballer that did not materialize, which highlighted the significant financial resources available in football.

He noted that this experience provided him with a better understanding of footballers’ earning potential, emphasizing that even those players who are not globally recognized can achieve a level of financial stability that many musicians aspire to.

Skales stated, “You don’t have to be globally famous to make serious money. You can just be a regular guy… they no dey bench you, and you go dey make money.”

He contrasted the two fields, describing music as an area filled with unpredictability, where success tends to arrive in cycles rather than as a consistent flow.

In his opinion, maintaining relevance in music over time requires not only talent and hard work but also an almost spiritual element.

He observed that football offers a more direct correlation between performance and financial reward, enabling players to establish stable careers without necessarily becoming well-known figures.

Skales also pointed out the often-ignored off-field revenue sources that footballers have, using the jewelry deal as an example of the lucrative opportunities available.

He concluded by noting that only a small fraction of Nigerian artists achieve substantial wealth, while many others face ongoing challenges in sustaining their careers in the industry.
