Omah Lay Stated That Only Burna Boy Matches His Level Of Music Quality

Burna Boy Omah Lay

Omah Lay has made a notable announcement in the music scene. The Afrobeats artist has asserted that he stands apart from others, mentioning only Burna Boy as comparable in terms of musical quality.

In a recent interview with Nandoleaks, the Port Harcourt-born musician expressed a strong opinion ahead of the release of his much-anticipated sophomore album, Clarity of Mind. He stated, “I don’t want to brag too much, but I am the best at this. When you put the whole Afrobeats artist category… When it comes to art, like making music, I am the best of the last 20 years; maybe the only person I sometimes put myself with is Burna Boy.”

This statement positions Omah Lay distinctly in the Afrobeats genre, regarding Burna Boy as his only real counterpart. The artist has previously stirred similar discussions in 2025 when he proclaimed himself the greatest of his generation on X, suggesting that his upcoming album would substantiate this claim. With Clarity of Mind, he aims to present a significant work.

The journey to this album has not been without challenges. Omah Lay has shared that he canceled an earlier version of the project after another artist allegedly used a sound he had shared. He has since rebuilt the album, releasing singles including Holy Ghost (2024), Waist (2025), and the latest, Don’t Love Me, all of which will feature on the 12-track album set for release on April 3, 2026.

According to Omah Lay, Clarity of Mind is a deeply personal project, addressing his mental health challenges and what he describes as a tumultuous sex life. Similar to his debut album, Boy Alone, he promises raw emotion, introspection, and candid storytelling, with even greater ambition this time.

His assertive statements have generated considerable discussion on social media. While some fans commend his self-confidence, others scrutinize the validity of his claims, especially since his rise in the mainstream has been relatively recent compared to established figures in the Afrobeats genre.
